Hoodies and Totes!

Hello all,

How is everyone? I'm sure some of you have noticed that there hasn't been any Minutes up for the last two meetings... mostly because there hasn't really been a whole lot to say (when only three people can come because of assignments and tests you make do right :D)... but we do need to know your thoughts on some things -

So,  it's getting to that time of the year again and it's time to order some hoodies.

We got a quote from Maple Creek (where we order our t-shirts from) and they said that right now it looks like hoodies will be about 30 dollars. The Hoodies will be black and have the UWCSA logo on the front a silhouette of ruined temple on the back. Just as a side note the price can change of course - once we have a definitive amount of who wants one we'll let you know.
Tote bags are going to be Navy Blue and will probably be 5-8 dollars.

Now the reason for this post is we need numbers!
So please indicate if you would like a hoodie, size of hoodie and number of them. As well as number of tote bags!
There will be a similar post up on the blog, and a sheet will be placed in the common room for similar purposes.
As long as you put your name is down on one of these three things we're fine!
We want the number of hoodies we need to order in by the end of the week if we can.

And... This year we would like to try to get the money in before we order the hoodies, which is why we're asking for your numbers by the end of this week.
As in previous years we've had people order something and then not pick it up/pay for it. Extra is fine - the almost full box full of previous years shirts not so much.

New Year and Exciting Things to do!

Hello All,

So it's a brand new year in Classics... at least for us, and why not start the year off with a bang?

Which means Thursday Sept.19th at 12:45pm, is our very first, official meeting in the common room (4G07, for all the lovely new people reading our blog) - anyone else excited?
There will be snacks and beverages to munch on, so just bring yourself.

Also, we are planning a Pub Night... whoohoo :D at our friendly neighbourhood Shannon's (right beside the convention center) for Saturday September 28, at 8pm.

This year expect more bake sales, some awesome adventures and of course another Social. So, stick around and join the ride, we're all glad you could make it.

Fall Consulship

Hello All,

I hope everyone is having a great summer. There are just a few weeks left of summer holidays before the new term, so enjoy them!

I wanted to inform everyone that for the fall term I will not be returning as co-consul due to health concerns that are being resolved through medical tests and upcoming surgery, I've been diagnosed with Cushing's Disease. Since Leyna had also run for the consulship, she will be taking over for me for the fall term with Arielle. Hopefully I will be returning for winter term, but I will be offering as much help and support to Arielle and Leyna (as well as the group).

I hope that everyone will offer Leyna and Arielle support and respect our decision. I'm confident that they will do a fantastic job and the group will continue to be the great student group that it is!

Enjoy your upcoming term!
Sincerely,
Myla

March 20th Meeting

Hey everyone,

So March 20th was our last official meeting of the term and the consuls have been elected. I will remain as consul and Arielle will be my new co-consul. Congrats to Arielle and a big thank you to Remi on his work as consul during this school year!

Also as a side note, Leyna, Arielle, Jacki, and I had lunch today and we brain stormed on ideas that we would like to see the club do next year. Hopefully we'll be able to do some of the same things that we did this year, but also do new things that we haven't done before!

Cheers,
Myla

March 6th Minutes

Hey everyone,

So in this week's meeting we brought up the upcoming elections for consulship. If you are interested in being a candidate you must let us know either via email or on the google group page by March 13th. We will then have one week to vote for the next year's consuls, so on the 20th we will know who will be running the club. Remember you get to vote for two consuls and there will be a box in the common room to cast your ballot.

Other than that there was not much discussed. There will probably be a movie night on April 5th or 6th, we'll keep everyone posted on that as the date approaches.

Cheers!

Feb. 27th Minutes

Hey Everyone,

We hope that you all had a wonderful reading week and enjoyed some time away from school!

The meeting was very short this Wednesday since it was mainly about the colloquium. If you are interested in presenting this Saturday at our colloquium please email us your abstracts to uwclassics@gmail.com ASAP, Friday by noon the latest.

We will be starting the colloquium at 10:00 am in 3D01, we are booking a backup room in case the construction is too noisy but hopefully the room will be fine. There will be coffee and lunch (it's a potluck lunch after all, so yay for free food provided by the club members!)

Also, there will be a bake sale on Wednesday March 6th on the 3rd floor of Centennial.

Cheers,
Your consuls,
Myla and Remi

No minutes from Feb. 13th

Hey everyone,

There are no minutes since there was no meeting on Wednesday. People were either ill or quite busy since it was mid-term season.

However, please submit your abstracts to uwclassics@gmail.com if you are interested in presenting on March 2nd at our colloquium! They are technically due today, but we'll accept them for another week.

Have a great reading week guys!
Your consuls,
Myla and Remi

Minutes from February 6th

Hey everyone,

Not much to say this week since the Toga Party is over and done with.

However, we do have the colloquium coming up soon! So, submit your abstracts to uwclassics@gmail.com. The UWCSA members are making a potluck lunch for that day, so the event will have free food, which is always a nice bonus!

We will also be having a pub night this Friday and possibly an archery day during reading week. Those two events will be confirmed this Wednesday and we'll post the information here and on Facebook.

Cheers,
Myla and Remi

So come out and have some fun with us!

Also, congrats to Nikki Wright for winning the last week of Where is Moe. The answers were Cafe Bodhi the Lion's Gate at Mycenae.

Hey everyone,

This is the last week to enter the contest to win a social ticket to the Toga Party happening this Saturday! Last week Moe was located on the 2nd floor of Centennial and at the Temple of Hatsheput in Egypt, unfortunately no one entered last week, so there was no winner.

So what are the locations Moe is visiting now:

Good luck everyone and remember to email your answers to uwclassics@gmail.com.

January 23rd Meetings and March Colloquium

Hey everyone,

It was a very short meeting today and we mostly discussed social related stuff. It seems that we are on track and everything is coming together nicely, so this blog will be very short.

The first Pub Night of the semester has been decided, it will be on February 15.

Here is the poster for the March colloquium:

Also, abstracts should be no longer than 250 words. Any questions about the colloquium feel free to email us at uwclassics@gmail.com.

Cheers,
Your consuls,
Myla and Remi

Myla and Remi

Minutes from January 16th

Hey everyone,

So there is not a lot to say about this week's meeting as it was very casual this week. We mostly asked for everyone to keep selling social tickets and hand out donation letters. So far we are doing pretty well with donations, we just have to start picking them up next week.

We have decided that we will worry about the scholarship/bursary in February after the social, less stressful for everyone.

We, the consuls, will also choose a Pub Night for February and let you all know when and where.

Also, there will be a bake sale on Wednesday, January 23rd on the 3rd floor of Centennial. Please in bake goods or buy bake goods!

Finally, congratulations to Alexandra Kroeger for winning this week's contest!  The correct answers were The King's Bath (Bath, England) and the Reference section in the UofW library.

Cheers,
Your consuls,
Myla and Remi

January 9th Minutes

Hey everyone!

The answers to Week 1 of the Moe contest were A) Pompeii and B) Classics Common Room! Congrats to Rick Zdan who won the social ticket for this week. Remember guys there are three more weeks of the contest, so three more tickets are to be won! Week 2 will be posted on Monday.

Shirts are in, so if you ordered a shirt please pay ($15) either to Remi or myself to receive your shirt.

Scholarship/Bursary: In the next meeting we will further discuss what the criteria will be for those who want to apply for the bursary/scholarship that will be done internally by the UWCSA. It is generally agreed that there should be a minimum of 6 credit hours in Classics and an interest in continuation with Classics. Any suggestions, bring them to the meeting, email us, or post on the google groups.

CAC: There are volunteer opportunities to work the registration desk May 13th-15th. If you are interested in volunteering let us know and we can forward you the details and who to get in contact with. Also, we are thinking of doing a special bake sale to help raise funds for the CAC, which then helps to bring in speakers.

Pub Trivia Night/Pub nights: There will be one on March 3rd after the colloquium. We are thinking of having a pub night, but after the Toga Party, we will have to decide on a date later on.

Colloquium: We will book the room from 10-6pm and open the invite to students at UofM. We will also allow 10 minutes for presentations and 5 minutes for questions. A definite time start will be decided upon as we approach the day and know how many presenters we will have.

Social: We are urging everyone to please hand out social donation letters and posting on the google groups the places you have been to. Remember if you sign up for a job for the night of the social you get in for free. Moreover, if you sell 10 social tickets you will receive a free drink ticket or an arm's length of silent auction tickets. That is an awesome bonus for those who are selling tickets!

Wednesday January 16th meeting will be a meet and greet to welcome and encourage newcomers to join our club! There will also be free snacks and drinks!

Cheers,
Your consuls,
Myla and Remi
