Classics Challenge Week 2

Here's your week 2 Easy Challenge:


Imagine, if you will, a man named Sarapammon. He's a simple man, hardworking, reliable, but lonely.  He is in love with Ptolemais, but she has shown little interest in him. With inconceivable foresight, he knows that in a couple of millenia people will celebrate a holiday of love on this day (14 February by our calendar) and so, out of desperation he makes this (see photo) as a gift to himself.

Your task is to tell me why this 'gift' is appropriate for Valentine's Day, and four other tidbits about the artefact. Use the form below to submit your answers.
